Education
Karl is a qualified English teacher at secondary level. He has taught in England for six years and he taught English as a Foreign Language for a year. He is currently the Head of English at St Michael's Catholic High School.
Prior to this, he established The Astley Cooper School's author visits programme, which saw a number of well-known and bestselling authors visit the school for readings, question-and-answer sessions, workshops and book signings. The programme received national press attention. Visitors included Jodi Picoult, Frederick Forsyth, Sophie Hannah, Mark Billingham, Joanne Harris, James Barrington/James Becker, John Connolly, Matt Hilton, Robyn Young, N.J. Cooper, Aidan Chambers, Darren Shan, Elizabeth Buchan, Deborah Moggach, Peter James, Malcolm Rose, Michael Dobbs and Robert Goddard.
